Georgie became convinced that the killer was her sister's boyfriend, Cooper Barrett (The Clean Cut Cadet). She and Spinelli spent endless hours looking for evidence. After intercepting a text message on her sister's phone, Georgie went to meet the mystery sender in the park.

A surprised and delighted Spinelli, after being told by Jason that Georgie had feelings for him, went in search of his dearest friend. Sadly, when he found her she was dead, the latest victim of the serial killer.

Losing Georgie brought Maxie and Spinelli closer together as they grieved the loss of their best friend. Maxie was struck another blow when her boyfriend Coop ended up dead. What appeared to be a suicide and confession was not accepted by her. She begged a skeptical Spinelli to help her prove her lover's innocence by helping her find the real TMK.

Spinelli and Maxie went on a stakeout and ended up in the sewers following a trail of clues. While they played detectives, Spinelli began to fantasize about them. He was now Jackal P.I. and Maxie was now his femme fatale, his Wounded Blonde One.

Maxie and Spinelli cracked the case and revealed the Text Message Killer as Diego Alcazar, who was seeking revenge for his father Lorenzo's murder (by Jason Morgan). They, along with Nikolas Cassadine, cornered Diego in an abandoned warehouse where he ended up falling into some ropes and ironically getting strangled to death.

With the closure of the Text Message Killer case, Spinelli and Maxie were able to put Georgie and Coop to rest. The lonely pair now had each other to turn to. The experience bonded them as friends.
